Minutes - November 19, 2007

Minutes from October 22, 2007 were unanimously approved as submitted.

 

Old Business-

SPM 247 � new course proposal.� Contingent pass � As soon as we receive the program requirement changes (as requested in #12) for adding SPM 247 in the list of required professional electives, then the course can be sent forward to the all-college committee.

 

SPM 285 � new course proposal.� Approved unanimously.�

 

New Business-

EXS 489 � alteration of existing course � add EXS 201 to list of statistics course prerequisites.� Approved unanimously.

 

ATR 333 � alteration of existing course- increase credits from 1 to 2.� Contingent pass � The following items need to be changed in the course form: change prerequisite impact to NO.� In course syllabus, most terminal objectives have 0 points.� Is the grading scale omitted?

 

ATR 334 � alteration of existing course- increase credits from 1 to 2.� Contingent pass � The following items need to be changed in the course form: change prerequisite impact to NO.� In course syllabus, under grading, why is 156??? included?� Points add to more than 100 � should grading be based on percentage?� Grading scale should include 0-59 as E.�

 

ATR 433 � alteration of existing course- increase credits from 1 to 2.� Contingent pass � The following items need to be changed in the course form: change prerequisite impact to NO.� In course syllabus, under terminal objectives - points add to more than 100 � should grading be based on percentage?� Grading scale should include 0-59 as E.�

 

ATR 349 � new course proposal � Contingent pass � Memo indicates that competencies have been moved from other courses � we suggest removing that, or include all updated course outlines.� Question was raised as to why epidemiology is in the course description but it does not appear in the objectives or in the content � This will need to be fixed one way or the other.�

 

ATR - alteration of existing program � incorporate course changes above and reduce free electives from 8 to 4. �Contingent pass - the following needs to be adjusted on program requirement sheet: GE/LA total should be 47 hours.� Also, it should read HLH 323 OR EXS 357 (otherwise total goes from 18 to 27 hours).

 

EXS 225 � new course proposal � Contingent pass � course name is different on form and on syllabus. Is it �IN kinesiology or �FOR kinesiology?� The course description on the syllabus should have 3 cr. hr at the end.� In the form, add SPM 238 to the list of courses in #6.� It was suggested that Ray Goldberg be given a paragraph in writing to distribute at the all-college meeting if the question arises about if students can take both EXS 225 and SPM 238 for credit.��

 

KIN and FIT programs � alteration of existing program to add EXS 100 as option for EXS 197.� This was tabled until next meeting � Committee would like to see both syllabi.� Questions were raised about the justification � as written, it is confusing regarding the disciplines of sport history and sport philosophy and not in-depth discussion of the topics.� Suggest rewriting justification.�

 

Next meeting is December 3rd at 3:15 in the Dean�s Conference room.� Members were asked to bring their spring calendars so the spring meeting schedule can be made.
